White Cop shoots Black off-duty Cop….
Posted by admin under: Police .
Off-duty Police Officer with only a few years on the job assigned to the Housing Bureau just clocked out and hoping to get home safely sees someone rummaging in his car. He tried to apprehend the perp and managed to evade his subduction and escapes. The off-duty cop engages in a foot chase while brandishing his off-duty sidearm, no reports of displaying his shield (later found in his pocket). Anti-crime officers in a unmarked auto sees the off-duty cop and makes a beeline to him. The story is sketchy at this point and under investigation but from reports show that the white cop jumps out of the anti-crime car and started firing on the black off-duty officer, mortally wounding him. I don’t want to play Monday morning quarter back here but it looks like protocols in armed engagement was not implemented. No cover, concealment was utilized and no verbal orders to the subject was reported. “Stop! Police, don’t move” was not reported used by the on duty-officer. My heart and sentiments goes out to both families involved in this tragic incident. In anti-crime, being shot by fellow officers while in plain clothes is the utmost fear and more training needs to be implemented. In the City there are many agencies working plainclothes and subject identification must be a topic of weekly training.

Personally, I think both cops were at fault. The “black” cop was chasing down a criminal, while off-duty, should have still called it in. The on-duty plain clothed “white” cop should have not been so trigger happy and try to chase down the “black” cop instead of shooting him with his gun. Obviously the “black” cop was not an immediate threat to the “white” cop.
In my opinion, it is NOT racial. It is poor training or lack of sufficient training and discipline.
